Davis Cup Returning To UBC
Vancouver (CKNW/AM980)

2/19/2013

Canada's Davis Cup quarter-final tie against Italy will be played in Vancouver.

The Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre has been kind to the Canadian tennis squad, which upset Spain there earlier this month to advance to the World Group quarter-finals.

Tickets for the April 5-7 best-of-five series against Italy will go on sale March 6.

Tennis Canada CEO Michael Downey says Vancouver was the obvious choice given the team's recent success there.

The tie against Spain set a Canadian Davis Cup attendance record with 17,805 spectators taking in the event over the course of the weekend.

The same seating capacity of approximately 6,200 will be used for the tie against Italy.

The winner of the tie will move on to the semifinals in September versus the winner of a tie between Serbia and the United States.
