The Vancouver Canucks could not find a way to hold a 2-0 lead and fell to the Edmonton Oilers 3-2 in the shootout at Roger's Arena.
Alex Edler and Zack Kassian staked the Canucks to a 2-0 lead that held until late in the second period when Jordan Eberle cut the Canucks lead in half with a nifty backhand that eluded Roberto Luongo.
Ales Hemsky would tie the game halfway through the third on a Oiler power play to even the score 2-2.
Nothing was decided in overtime, setting up the shootout, where Sam Gagner and Hemsky would secure the extra point for the Oilers and send the Canucks to a 0-1-1 start to this lockout shortened season.
Vancouver will next face Calgary on Wednesday to wrap up their opening three game homestand.
