Calgary wanted it, so did Winnipeg. But in the end Vancouver was chosen to host another Davis Cup tie, this time against top-ranked Spain and Rafael Nadal (if he's healthy).
Tennis Canada announced today that UBC's Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre will host the event February 1-3, 2013.
UBC hosted Canada vs France last February in front sold-out crowds all three days.
“The team considered all the hosting options very carefully for this tie, but ultimately the immense crowd support and first-class treatment we received last time in Vancouver were factors in deciding to return there,” said Canadian Davis Cup team captain Martin Laurendeau. “
The configuration for this February's event will be changed slightly, allowing for 6,400 more people to attend - about 1,400 than last time.
Tickets will go on sale December 3 through Ticketmaster.
