Power play goals one minute and eighteen seconds apart early in the third period lifted the Brandon Wheat Kings to a 3-2 win over the Vancouver Giants before 5527 fans at the Pacific Coliseum.

An early first period goal by Jackson Houck gave the Giants a rare first period lead, but Brandon responded with three unanswered goals, including a pair by Nick Buonassisi and a single by Tim McGauley found their way past Giants rookie net minder Payton Lee. Brett Kulak scored a late third period power play goal for Vancouver, but Brandon would hang on for the victory.

Lee, the Giants second round draft selection in the 2011, was solid between the pipes for the Giants in his first Western Hockey League game, but the Giants penalty killers could not close the door on the Wheat Kings. Brandon was a paltry four for their last forty one chances on the power play before their game against Vancouver. The Giants penalty kill is dead last in the WHL, allowing two more goals on four opportunities given to Brandon on the night.

Vancouver will face Victoria on Friday before heading out on a five game road trip.
