The NHL and Islanders owner Charles Wang announced today that the New York Islanders will move from the Nassau County Coliseum on Long Island to the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn New York for the 2015-16 season.

Wang has also signed a 25 year lease agreement with the Barclay’s Centre.

The Islanders have been at the Nassau County Coliseum since their inception in 1972. However, Wang and county officials could not come up with a new building agreement or quantifiable refurbishment of the existing arena to convince Wang that a long term situation was viable. A referendum for a new arena was also voted down by county residents last summer.
