The Vancouver Giants announced today that Hockey Hall of Famer Phil Esposito will be their guest at the upcoming Canada-Russia junior game being held at the Pacific Coliseum on November 14th.
Esposito was an integral part of the 1972 Canada-Russia Summit Series and 40 years ago made his famous 'Rally Canada' speech at the Pacific Coliseum after Team Canada lost Game Four of the series and were booed off the ice by the Vancouver fans. Canada went on to win the series in eight games and it has been argued that Esposito's speech not only galvanized his team, but the nation as well.
Esposito and former Canuck Igor Larionov will be 'special guests' for Game Five of the 2012 Subway Super Series, an annual junior hockey showcase of Canada and Russia's top junior players.
