“We need to be better”
Head Coach Mike Benevides has let his team know that sluggish starts and injuries are no excuse for losing. The Lions Head Coach instigated what he called a ‘training camp’ mentality at practice in Surrey on Tuesday, which included all of the Lions healthy receivers taking extra reps at practice with Lions Quarterback Travis Lulay.
Benevides has indicated that receivers Geroy Simon (hamstring), Arland Bruce (concussion) and defender Khalif Mitchell (thigh) are doubtful for this weekend’s first place showdown with the Calgary Stampeders at BC Place Stadium…which led to the extra work for the receiving corps.
“The toughest part about bringing in new receivers is the timing,” remarked Lulay. “The more we can see of each other this week, the better chance we have for success.”
Benevides was more to the point. “We keep these men on our practice roster and pay them professional wages so that when we encounter injuries, that we will have little slippage. Our injuries cannot be an excuse, it’s week 15 and everyone has them.”
