Newcomer Travis Cheek scored the game winning goal with just over five minutes to play and rookie goalie Tyler Fuhr made 13 saves to pick up his first Western Hockey League win as the Vancouver Giants edged the Spokane Chiefs to pick up their first win of the season.

Nathan Burns and David Musil also scored for Vancouver, who are now 1-3 early in the season.

The Giants now hit the road for a game Wednesday in the Okanagan against the Kelowna Rockets before returning home for a pair of weekend games on Friday versus Medicine Hat and Sunday afternoon against the Victoria Royals.
