Almost back at square one.

The future of waste disposal for Metro Vancouver remains unclear.

After much debate the Metro Vancouver board has voted in favour of plans that could see mass burning of garbage at a site either in or outside this region, but no expansion of landfills except as a last resort.

The plan must now be reviewed and approved by Environment Minister Barry Penner.

For now, up to half a million tonnes of waste will be transported to a landfill in Cache Creek, and it could be three years before a replacement solution is named.
