Police apologize to families of Pickton's victims

In the wake of today's decision to uphold Willie Pickton's convition, the police who investigated the missing women case are apologizing for not catching Pickton sooner.

Vancouver Police Deputy Chief Doug Lepard says this case will always haunt him because mistakes were made before pickton's arrest in 2002.  In his public apology he says, "to the families, of the missing women, I would say to you that I wish from the bottom of my heart that we would have caught him sooner. I wish that the several agencies involved that we could have done better in so many ways."

He says police would welcome a public inquiry into the matter.
