Vancouver City Councillor Geoff Meggs is recovering at Vancouver General Hospital after getting into a serious crash in south Vancouver.

Meggs was riding his bicyle at the time of the crash with a car near 51st and Granville.

Mayor Gregor Robertson says the councillor will undergo surgery later this week.

The mayor says Meggs is healing, but does need spinal surgery.

He says Meggs has no neurological damage.
