More than 500 athletes have already arrived to participate in the Paralympic Games, which begin Friday.

The athletes are from 44 countries, and they're vying for 64 medals.

While Whistler will host all alpine and nordic events, wheelchair curling and sledge hockey tournaments will be held in Vancouver.

This week, the paralympic flame makes stops in Riley Park and UBC before wrapping up a 24-hour torch relay.

Featured runners include Vancouver Canuck and Team Canada Olympic goalie Roberto Luongo.

Friday's opening ceremony will be at BC Place.

The ten-day competition wraps up March 21st in Whistler.
