The provincial government is restoring some money to the community grants system after deep cuts last year, but overall funding will still be about 35 million dollars less than just two years ago.
And minister responsible Rich Coleman says grants will no longer be available to adult sports and arts groups, or environmental organizations like animal shelters.
For example, Coleman says parrots aren't an indigenous bird to British Columbia, and yet they were getting 100-thousand dollars for a parrot recovery society.
Coleman admits the government is putting more of the one billion dollars it raises from gaming into general revenue, saying tough decisions had to be made in these tough financial times.
