In her first interview since word broke she is facing drunk driving charges, North Vancouver-Seymour MLA Jane Thornthwaite said she did not realize she had too much to drink - despite blowing over the legal limit at an RCMP roadblock.

Thornthwaite said she spent all of Monday night visiting various Olympic pavilions, including Sochi House and Northern House.

Afterwards she took the SeaBus to North Vancouver then jumped in her car and headed for home.  Minutes later she was stopped at an RCMP roadblock and blew .11 in a breathalyser test.

Thornthwaite said she had no idea she had too much to drink.

"I don't think anybody should be having anything to drink before they get behind a wheel. And I think that should be that the rule," said Thornthwaite.

Thornthwaite said the worst part of all of this - breaking the news to her three children.

Going forward, she is staying on the job and working to regain the confidence of co-workers, family and friends.

"I just want to make sure that everybody knows I do trust and believe in my job. I love my job and I want to continue to represent my constituents and serve them and regain their trust."
