Olympic bus confusion
Vancouver/CKNW(AM980)

12/18/2009

If you thought scoring tickets to the 2010 Olympics was tough...Wait until you hear what happened to a North Vancouver woman needing transportation to Whistler Olympic Park in the Callahan Valley.

Marian Dodd has tickets to ski-jumping and the biathlon on February 13th, but her passes with the Olympic Bus Network were only good for the first event.

Dodd says, "They responded, 'You get transported up for one event and then you must leave directly, right after, that event."

She says workers at the Florida-based company handling the bus network also need a geography lesson.

She says, "They thought Pemberton was somewhere near North Vancouver. They thought Squamish was near North Vancouver and they also thought there was a free bus from Whistler Village to North Vancouver."

Dodd says she doubts this would have happened if VANOC had awarded the contract to a local company.

VANOC staff say they have set up travel options for ticket-holders with more than one event on the same day, so Dodd won't be forced to sell half her tickets.

Details of the improved travel options will be unveiled during a news conference Monday.
