The man who innovated urban planning in B.C. has died suddenly of A.L.S.

Vancouver politician and architect Art Cowie passed away Saturday evening.

Premier Gordon Campbell says he got word of his longtime friend's death Sunday morning on a flight home from the Maritimes, "It was a shock.  I'd heard a couple of weeks ago that he had suddenly been hit by A.L.S. and I guess it took him very quickly but he was working right up until the end.  I think the last email I got from him was last week or the week before."

Cowie is survived by his wife Cathy, daughters Lisa and Sharon, and stepdaughter Corie.
