West Vancouver settles with man wrongfully arrested
METRO VANCOUVER/CKNW AM 980

11/16/2009

West Vancouver has reached an out of court settlement with a man who'd been seeking damages in small claims court, following his arrest in January of 2006.

Donald Sipes had earlier won a wrongful arrest lawsuit against West Vancouver Police.

He had been arrested and detained by an officer investigating a fraud case at a local mall.

Sipes says he's been detained more than 30 times by West Vancouver Police because he has a scruffy appearance.

He says he was taken into custody despite the fact he didn't match the description of the fraud suspect.

West Vancouver Police say they have learned from the incident and aren't disclosing how much they are paying him.
