Terrace Mountain fire continues to burn
WEST KELOWNA/CKNW(AM980)

8/2/2009

It's wait and see for evacuees in West Kelowna as the Terrace Mountain wildfire continues to burn.

2500 people have been evacuated and another 2100 remain on alert.

The blaze is estimated at over 7000 hectares in size.

Fire Information Officer Suzanne Von Der Porten says the fire was able to hop both a fire guard and a contingency guard Saturday afternoon, "A guard can only the fire if it's not burning at that rank. With that vigorous fire behaviour it just moves and because you have to pull crews and equipment it does what it wants."

Von Der Porten says 237 fire fighters have been working the blaze on Sunday, along with helicopters and air tankers.
