NDP Leader Carole James says she's dropping her fight against the Liberal government's carbon tax.
The New Democrats ran an axe-the-tax campaign and attacked the levy during the May 12th election campaign, but the Liberals were re-elected and James says it's now time to change strategy on the issue.
She says the tax is here to stay and her party will now be working to make it more fair.
As part of her shadow cabinet unveiled today, James appointed Victoria MLA Rob Fleming as the NDP's new environment critic, replacing Shane Simpson, who moves to housing and social development.
She also kept two key cabinet critics in place -- Adrian Dix in health and Bruce Ralston in finance.
James claims the Liberals are proposing spending cuts that will make tough times tougher and her shadow cabinet will hold the
Liberals accountable to keep their election promise to protect health and education.
