Volunteers may be Withdrawn from Upcoming Police and Fire Games
VANCOUVER/CKNW(980AM)

5/19/2009

The union representing striking paramedics may withdraw its volunteers from the upcoming Police and Fire Games if the situation doesn't end by July 31st.

However, Fire and Games CEO Stu Ballantyne says the 10 day event may manage to function without volunteers, "First of all, you know, most of our athletes are trained in first aid...but there are some requirements that we require for some sports like boxing that require ambulance service and we've been talking with them."

Essential service legislation is keeping British Columbia's 3, 500 paramiedics from staging a full-scale walkout.
