Community garden irks one city councillor

"Arrogant" is how a Vancouver Councillor is describing the mayor's decision to set-up a community garden on the rear lawn of City Hall.

The NPA's Suzanne Anton says for the past year a landscape architect was already working on plans for improving the area, "For the mayor to think he's the king and come along and by edict say we're going to put a community garden in there is absolutely astonishing to me. He has forgotten that he campaigned on public process. He's forgotten that he campaigned on bringing people in and having people be part of the decision."

Anton says there was no public consultation.

She says the City Hall lawn is the most important civic public space in the city.
