Solicitor-General John Van Dongen has tabled long-awaited changes to the Police Act in the Legislature today, giving BC's Police Complaint Commissioner more investigative powers.

Van Dongen says the changes are based on the recommendations of Judge Josiah Wood, who reviewed the act two years ago.

Van Dongen says the revised act would  require officers to cooperate fully with investigations; officers who retire or resign would no longer be able to avoid the consequences of discipline proceedings.
