Lesbian says stand-up comic went too far
Vancouver/CKNW(AM980)

6/25/2008

The BC human rights tribunal has taken on the complaint of a lesbian who says a stand-up comic went too far.

The complaint was filed by Lorna Pardy who says comedian Guy Earle went past "humour" and headed straight for "harassment."

She says she and her same-sex partner were subjected to a tirade of homophobic and sexist comments by the comic while he was on stage at Zesty's restaurant on Commercial Drive.

She also says the owner didn't intervene.

For his part, the owner says he wasn't there, but he tried to sort it out with the woman afterwards.

The comic admits he used comments which he now regrets.

The tribunal says a hearing must be held to sort out the different sides of the story and to figure out what role booze played in the situation.
