Call for moratorium on offshore drilling in BC
Victoria/CKNW(AM980)

6/12/2008

As gas prices continue to soar, the president of the BC chamber of commerce says it's time to lift the moratorium on offshore drilling in BC.

John Winter says if there was ever an opportunity to seriously look at it, it's now.

"The price of a barrel of oil worldwide, the encouragement to invest the proceeds from that into looking for a greater supply has never been better, and, I think it's really time that both the province and the federal government began to look at British Columbia as a real option. They continue to work against our best interests, and, it's really disconcerting."

Winter says energy minister Richard Neufeld says BC has to wait for the federal government to deal with it, but, he says the federal government seems unwilling to deal with BC
