Granville Mall redux
VANCOUVER/CKNW(AM980)

5/21/2008

The final version the Granville Street goes before Vancouver City Council this week. If approved, the street would be radically redesigned in hopes of transforming it into downtown's most attractive thoroughfare.

The Downtown Vancouver Business Improvement Association is giving its approval.

Executive Director Charles Gauthier says the plan incorporates top-quality construction materials, "It's a choice between doing your kitchen in linoleum, which looks good for awhile and then it kind of gets worn down, and then you have to replace it, but it's cheap to do. Or you spend a little bit more money on a better floor finishing and it looks great and retains its value over time."

The estimated cost of the project is 20.8 million dollars. Funding is expected to be shared by the City and Translink.
