Drug testing well underway
RICHMOND/CKNW(AM980)

2/8/2010

The Vancouver-Whistler Olympics haven't started yet, but several competing athletes have already been tested for doping.

Since the anti-doping clinic opened February 4th, more than 200 samples have been taken.

''181 in urine, 37 blood. We're expected to carry out about two thousand tests in all," says International Olympic Committee Spokesman Mark Adams.

Adams also says world-wide TV coverage of these games has grown more than a third from the last Winter Olympics, "By about 35% on the coverage for Torino. It's up from 16,000 hours globally to 21,000 hours."

Adams adds a record 82 nations are taking part in these games...up from 77 during Italy's Olympics.
