Parents upset at increasing Southdale Community Centre fees
CJOB News Team reporting
8/15/2012

They've got a new hockey rink, but it's coming at a price for residents in Southdale.

The recent expansion of the Southdale Community Centre has caused club fees to skyrocket - last year, for a 12-year-old to play hockey, there would be an 85-dollar per family club fee, plus a St. Boniface Minor Hockey fee.

This year, the club fee would be 110-dollars per player - plus the minor hockey fee, so a family with three children would pay more than 200 dollars more to the centre.

Todd Thornton, the president of the centre's board of directors says the increase is to cover higher operating costs and the 18-thousand dollar per month mortgage on the 9.1 million dollar expansion.

Funding from three levels of government covered more half the cost.

The club is having an open house Monday, Aug. 20.
