Hamilton's new 150 million dollar stadium will be completed "on time and on budget".
That from Ian Troop, the man in charge of bringing the Pan Am Games to Southern Ontario in 2015.
He adds that the stadium, which replaces Ivor Wynne and will host soccer during those games, is already 10% complete. Workers will start installing the structural steel this summer.
Mayor Bratina has taken aim at critics of the design calling it the "ideal stadium for Hamilton" and adding that there's no need to spend millions of additional dollars to install arches or "something fancy".
The new stadium will be completed by next July.
A time capsule was planted during Friday's ceremony containing such things as a front-page article announcing the winning Pan Am Games bid, a book celebrating the history of Ivor Wynne Stadium and a Team Ontario soccer kit. A member of the aboriginal community also conducting a smudging ceremony at the Cannon and Balsam Avenue site to clear the area of negative energy.

There's been a guilty plea in a high-profile Hamilton case.
A former administrator with SISO, Nese Burgaz, pleaded guilty today to one count of theft over 5-thousand dollars.
She's been remanded till September for a pre-sentencing report.
SISO, which stands for Settlement and Integration Services Organization, once was Hamilton's largest agency that worked with refugees and immigrants.
The non-profit organization supported about 400 government-assisted refugees and helped about 8,000 immigrants, get access to services each year.
Burgaz admitted she stole at least 160-thousand from SISO between April 1, 2006 and August 31, 2010.
SISO went bankrupt in January 2011, just two years after reporting a surplus of 2 million dollars.
About 80 per cent of SISO's funding came from Citizenship and Immigration Canada.
An audit by the federal government identified at least 1.6 million in questionable claims and expenses made by SISO.
The trials of former executive director of SISO, Morteza Jafarpour, as well as former financial controller Ahmed Salama are scheduled to begin August 12.
They face charges of fraud, theft and use of forged documents, in their alleged roles in SISO's financial undoing.

Provincial NDP leader Andrea Horwath is back in her Hamilton-Centre riding, chatting with constituents on Locke Street and having breakfast at the West Town Tavern on Friday morning.
It's been three days since she announced that the New Democrats will support the Liberal budget because of a series of government promises including lower auto insurance rates and the creation of a financial accountability office at Queen's Park.
Horwath says response to her decision has been mostly positive.
She believes people see the opportunity to drive change within a minority government situation at Queen's Park, adding that the current situation is "extremely positive" when compared to the previous "arrogance" of the majority Liberal government.
Horwath pledges that New Democrats will now focus on "holding the government's feet to the fire", and ensuring that the budget isn't just a bunch of "empty promises".

Hamilton hosted a special guest this afternoon.
Robert Kennedy Jr. delivered the keynote address for Mohawk Talks at Liuna Station.
The environmental activist spoke about the need to transition from an old energy economy based on carbon and its incumbent fuels -- to a new and clean energy economy that creates jobs and prosperity.
Kennedy says we're largely dependent on old forms of energy because of the political advantages and giant subsidies that come along with it.
He says our governments need to force companies to internalize all of their costs including the clean up. He pointed to Hamilton's Randle Reef as an example of how industry used the shores of our harbour, then picked up shop and left, leaving Hamilton holding the proverbial garbage bag.
He notes that the steel industry made Hamilton prosperous for a time, but it was a boom/bust cycle that has left us with the task of reinventing our industry.
Kennedy says North America should be measuring the economy not only based on how it produces jobs, and the dignity of those jobs over a generation, but also how it preserves the value of the assets in a community.
He says our children will be the ones ...
