More than a dozen local organizations will be darkening their websites on Monday.
Ranging from Friends of the Red Hill Valley to the Hamilton District Labour Council and the Council of Canadians --- they are taking part in a symbolic protest against what they call federal government efforts to "silence the voices of Canadians".
At issue is the Harper government's omnibus budget bill which changes more than 70 pieces of legislation.
Green Party Leader Elizabeth May has dubbed the bill, the "Environmental Destruction Act".
Among other things, it weakens environmental legislation, limits auditor general reports, changes rules for charities and raises the pension age to 67.
