Update:

Life is returning to normal for residents of a north Edmonton community.

Just before 2pm this afternoon, police set up around the area of 160 Avenue and 129 Street.

Two hours later, tactical unit members geared up in preparation of entering a two-storey home on the street. Just after 5 this evening, the tactical unit moved in and the situation was resolved peacefully.

Police are playing the incident close to the chest and will not be releasing any further details.

A quiet north end neighbourhood was disturbed Sunday afternoon by a high police presence. Police cruisers and the tactical unit were on scene at what appears to be a domestic situation.

The police are only referring to it as an 'incident' near 160 Avenue and 129 Street.

The situation started just before 2pm this afternoon, but suddenly took on more urgency around 3:40pm when more members of the tactical unit arrived. They arrived with an EMS vehicle and an old converted armoured truck. That has joined a cadre of other police cars, trucks, and full sized SUV's which are now choking the entrance to the cul-de-sac.

The tactical unit members geared up around 4pm in preparation of entering a two-storey home on the street. After getting into the armoured truck, members of the tactical team have now gone into the cul-de-sac where they remain out of our reporter's line of sight.

EPS aren't calling the situation a standoff, only referring to it as an 'incident'.

People living in the cul-de-sac are unable to enter their homes, but those wanting to leave the cul-de-sac are allowed to.

The specific type of incident or how long the police presence is expected to last is unknown at this time. We'll have more from the scene as it develops. (dl,blb)
