Over the 20 years that it's been running, the Canadian Derby Edmonton Marathon has stretched into a full weekend, family event.

The full marathon goes Sunday morning, but on Saturday things kick off with activities and a run for the kids, and a 5 and 10k event.

Event Director Tom Keogh, says for the 20th anniversary they invited some familiar faces, including the winner of the first marathon, Stefan Fekner.

"Stefan, who's now, I think, around 60 years old will be running in the 10k, and we've got various other people that were involved in the event back in '92."

There were also changes made to the route.

"We love our river valley, but running it doesn't bring the fastest times. So now we are able to run on the north edge of the river valley," says Keogh. "Because of that, our course is what we call crazy fast."

He hopes it will help shave some time from the record books.
