A former Edmonton Oiler has found himself in the middle of some controversy in his Sturgeon County community.

Some residents of Riverstone Pointe, north of St. Albert, aren't happy that Fernando Pisani is building a permanent hockey rink in his backyard. So, those upset have taken their concerns to the Sturgeon County subdivision and development appeal board.

Don McGeachy is a county councillor and sits on the SDAB, he says he's never seen a complaint like this before.

"(This is) a very unique situation, in fact, as it was presented at the SDAB (meeting), several of the neighbours have had backyard rinks before, temporary structures though, with plywood and two by fours, and they've had no complaints from neighbours."

Some neighbours claim the 50 by 90 foot rink will create a noise problem, and the lightning will interfere with privacy late at night. (lk)
