The biggest aerial war games north of Nevada are getting underway at CFB Cold Lake in northeast Alberta.
It's called exercise Maple Flag...and after a break last year because there was a real air war in Libya...NATO and allied air crews are gathering like eagles at Cold Lake. Along with Canadian fighter jets, there are aircraft here from Austria, Brazil, France, Germany, the Netherlands, New Zealand, the Republic of Singapore, the United States and the United Kingdom. Observers have arrived from places including India, South Korea and South Africa.
Maple Flag allows pilots to hone their skills in very realistic air combat war games in the wide open skies of northeastern Alberta. Because it's also important to have air support working with ground troops, members of 3 PPCLI from Edmonton Garrison will be part of exercise Winged Warrior. The war games run until the end of this month.
