Edmonton cab drivers could be heading to the picket line next week.
In an overwhelming bode of support, drivers part of the United Cabbies Association of Edmonton have voted 82 per cent in favour of strike action.
Balraj Manhas with the association says the power is now in the driver's hands.
"It was wonderful for the drivers. They understand their issues now, they voted in favour of strike, so we can go ahead with strike anytime we want," says Manhas.
The driver's are without a contract after talks between the union and employer broke down months ago. The case is now going before a mediator.
"They (the drivers) are hoping that their employer will come back to the table and talk to them," says Manhas.
Some of the disputed issues include insurance surcharges, weekly stand rent, and having to rent debit card machines, instead of being able to purchase them. (lk/ks)
