A 26-year old woman has been charged five months after the body of a newborn baby was found in the Lloydminster landfill.

Late last November, RCMP were called to a Lloydminster home where a woman had experienced problems related to child birth but her baby could not be located. A tip led police to the landfill where the remains of a baby were found after a physically and emotionally gruelling five day search.

The charge laid against the woman is under section 243 of the Criminal Code which carries a maximum penalty of two years in jail. It says it's a crime in any manner to dispose of the dead body of a child, with intent to conceal the fact that its mother has been delivered of it, whether the child died before, during or after birth. The woman's name has not been released by RCMP in Lloydminster.
