A province wide study tracking student achievement in Alberta in underway, and so far the results are shocking.
The study looks back at the work of students from the time they enter Kindergarten and it has found too many kids are falling behind.
But the most alarming finding is how frequently student marks are being inflated to keep them moving from grade to grade.
Jim Dueck, formerly with the Alberta ministry of Education, is involved in the study. He says the problem is no one in the system wants to see kids fail.
Dueck says standardized testing must continue in Alberta to try to balance against grade inflation.
