ASIRT rules in favour of police in shooting death

Criminal charges will not be laid against RCMP officers in the death of a man in Onoway, northwest of Edmonton earlier this year. The decision follows a seven-month investigation by the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team.
Back in January, two members of the Stony Plain RCMP responded to a 911 call regarding a domestic dispute at an apartment building.
When they arrived,  officers were confronted by a 49-year-old man armed with a knife. The man approached police,  ignoring demands that he drop the knife, and at that time officers fired their weapons. The man died at the scene.
Results of the ASIRT investigation found both police officers were acting in self-defense when they fired their guns.
