A Central Alberta farmer will now serve a suspended sentence instead of jail time for shooting at a would-be thief. Brian Knight was convicted of criminal negligence causing bodily harm for hitting a man with a light birdshot in March 2009. The man was trying to steal an ATV from Knight's property near Tees. Knight was sentenced last fall to 90-days in jail, all to be served on weekends. Instead, the Alberta Court of Appeal has ruled that the punishment was unfit and will have to do 50-hours of community service and three-months of probation.
