A massive provincial infusion of cash is heading to fight forest fires and mountain pine beetle infestations. The province is allocating $150-million on fighting wildfires and another $40-million on mountain pine beetle. With the unpredictable nature of fires, Environment and Sustainable Resource Development Minister Diana McQueen says the cost is covered through emergency funding. The pine beetle cash will go to survey and control field work as well as re-foresting areas killed off by infestations.
