Giants chase elite tourneys

The Vancouver Giants are gearing up to celebrate their tenth season in the Western Hockey League, and as a result, are chasing some of those memorable tournaments, which has made their franchise successful over the years.

Newly appointed Chief Operating Officer Stu Ballantyne, who worked with the Giants in hosting the 2006 World Junior Championships and 2007 Memorial Cup, spoke about the team’s future plans at a press conference Friday morning.

“We want to bring big junior hockey events to Vancouver,” said Ballantyne, who made himself a household name for his work on the Molson Indy in Vancouver. “We want to look at them all.

“The Memorial Cup is a tougher one to get, it only comes by every three years to the WHL and then there’s 20 groups that want to have a chance at it so that’s a tougher one, but Hockey Canada’s got a bunch of World ...
