Oh, oh, Orange

Not a good weekend to be a sports fan wearing orange.
Especially in this province.
First, to the global issue.
If anyone can produce video of a more graceless, grinding and judiciously uneven final at a major soccer championship, the masochist in me would like to see it.
Spain were the deserving winners, 1-0 over a Netherlands team who turned a ballet into the lumberman's games.
Still, the Dutch did not get the benefit of a few key calls from referee Howard Webb. That was clearly illustrated when Holland’s Arjen Robben was held back on his second breakaway. A deserved yellow card would have reduced Spain to 10 men. The official showed restraint. Later, Webb did not show the same compassion when he reduced Holland to 10 men, then an obvious Dutch corner kick was missed, and the Oranje were shorthanded when the winning goal was scored minutes later.

They annoy among us

The BC Lions were like that college drop out last year. They were full of attitude while coming back home to live in the basement.
Even thorough all of that, one thing is true.
The best rivalry going is the BC-Saskatchewan battle, at least on the field.
It's the closest thing the Lions can get to in terms of a Labour Day rivalry. Until one day when Victoria or Kelowna gets a team in about 50 years.
But herein lies a warning before this contest. In the stands... They live among us.
Rider fans are like a grasshopper outbreak. They spring up and fly about as soon as you put your foot down on your home turf.
