UFC 118: Edgar vs. Penn 2: Results
Posted 8/29/2010 6:32:00 PM
Great night of fights with some questions answered and some
questions that will never be answered but can be put to rest for now.
Nate Diaz vs. Marcus
Davis
Going into this I assumed Davis would have the striking
advantage cause of his boxing pedigree… boy was I mistaken. Nate Diaz had a significant reach
advantage and used it well peppering Davis with shot after shot even opening up
a significant cut above The Irish Hand Grenade’s right eye. The finish came in the third when after
an all-standup fight, Diaz took Davis to the ground and choked him out with a
guillotine.
2.25 Ariannys out of 3. This did win Fight of the Night Honors and the crowd was
really into it but I liked the Main-Miranda fight better, but we’ll get into
that in a second.

UFC 118: Edgar vs. Penn 2: Rest of the Main Card Preview
Posted 8/27/2010 1:55:00 AM
Even though all the hype is at the top of the card, UFC 118 is far from top heavy.
Right before the Couture-Toney fight, we’ll be treated to
what I hope is a great Jiu-Jitsu display as BJJ black belts Demian Maia and
Mario Miranda faceoff. Maia is one
of the absolute best Jiu-Jitsu practitioners in MMA as evidence of Anderson

find that choke, he’ll find a limb and bend it in a way you didn’t think was
possible. It’ll be interesting to
see the type of game plan Miranda goes with cause like Maia, he’s not know very
much for his striking and he’s a very good wrestler as evidence from ...
UFC 118: Edgar vs. Penn 2: Co-Main Event Preview

Edgar vs. Penn 2 is slotted in the main event and is on the
top of marquee for UFC 118 but lets
be real, the main attraction to this card is Couture vs. Toney. This is far from the first time a boxer
has fought a martial artist and it won’t be the last but this is definitely the
biggest name boxer to fight the biggest name martial artist in a long, long
time.
It all goes back to 1963 when “Judo” Gene LeBell fought top
ranked light heavyweight boxer Milo Savage and Judo Gene choked him out in the
4th round. There’ve
been many others over time including Muhammad Ali fighting to a draw against
Japanese pro wrestler Antonio Inoki (yes, this was a for real fight) in 1976 in
one of the worst promotion debacles in combat sports history (I’d tell you more
about ...
