A man who was wanted by police is claiming excessive force was used to detain him, and is suing the City of Vancouver along with the officers involved in the incident.
Kalman Hlavacs says Vancouver Police chased him after seeing him on a SkyTrain in Vancouver last November.
In a statement of claim, he says officers caught up to him at Columbia Station where they beat him, leaving him with brain injuries, a concussion, a broken
nose, permanent ringing in his ears and permanently blurred vision.
The claim documents go on to allege the 10 officers conspired to cover up the beating by failing to take notes, make accurate records or choosing to stay silent.
Hlavacs was convicted of break and enter charges two months ago.
The VPD says it won’t comment, as the matter is before the courts.
None of these claims has been tested in court.
