Several seniors have left their homes in Merritt because the road leading to the retirement centre is seeing some flooding.
Two feet of water is on the road in front of Nicola Meadows Retirement Living and a dozen people decided to leave and stay with family.
Manager Haedy Yanciw says an emergency plan is in place if the situation gets any worse.
“They come in with a Zodiac boat, put people in that. Get people to the end of the road, get them on the bus. The bus takes them to a civic centre where we get a hold of the families or we find them accommodations.”
Yanciw says some rooms on the ground floor could be at risk for water damage, but she doesn’t expect water levels to reach that high.
She says about 35 people are still at the centre.
