Interior Health is warning residents along the Shuswap River near Ashton Creek to be cautious and check their water, following a tanker truck crash which has spilled thousands of litres of gasoline and diesel.
It’s believed that tanker truck crashed into a nearby road this morning, spilling 4,000 litres of gasoline and 12,000 litres of diesel into a flooded field.
“This is a precautionary advisory for water users in the immediate area of the spill and those along the Shuswap River downstream from the accident to the mouth of Mara Lake,” reads part of a statement from Interior Health.
According to the release, it remains unclear if the fuel has entered the river.
The Ministry of Environment, as well as environmental consultants have been called into the spill.
