Bell Canada says an anonymous hacker has illegally obtained information like names, telephone numbers, and email addresses from many of their customers.
The company says that information includes approximately 1.9-million active email addresses, and the active phone numbers and names of around 1,700 customers.
They don’t believe, however, that any passwords or sensitive and financial information was accessed.
Bell says the incident is not connected to the recent “WannaCry” cyber attack, which affected about 150 countries when it first struck on Friday.
Companies, organizations, and individuals were all affected by the attack, including Britain’s hospital network.

Bell says it has taken steps to secure affected systems against further attacks.
They are also working closely with the RCMP cyber crime unit in its investigation of the attack.
The company says it is in the process of contacting affected customers.
