It’s official: the polls are open!
If you are one of 3.1-million British Columbians eligible to vote, and did not cast a ballot in advance voting, you can do so until 8:00 PM PST Tuesday.

Decent weather for general voting day
Anyone hoping to use weather as an excuse for not voting will have to think of something else….at least in Vancouver.
Several studies suggest rain on election day dampens voter turnout.
But the sun is shining in Vancouver, with barely a cloud in sight.
CKNW’s Charmaine de Silva was outside Elsie Roy elementary in Yaletown where a steady stream of people went in and out of the polling station since it opened.

That wasn’t the only place with a decent line-up before 8 AM.

What happens after the polls close?
After the polls close at 8pm, the vote counting begins immediately, and Andrew Watson of Elections BC tells “The Jon McComb Show” on CKNW that first results will show up not long after.
“That’s a manual process still in B.C., so each team counts the ballots for their ballot box. We usually start seeing results being posted on our website around 8:30, 8:40.”
However, absentee ballots aren’t counted the same night, and CKNW’s Jon McComb asked Watson if there could be some impact.
“The absentee ballots are counted at what’s called ‘Final Count’ and that’s scheduled to take place May 22nd to 24th. So, there is the possibility that in very, very close, tight races that we won’t know the outcome until later in the month?”
“That’s true, yes,” says Watson. “If the race was close, then the “Final Count’ can certainly decide the outcome.”
Global News and CKNW’s Decision 2017 coverage will begin at 7:00 PM, right after the News Hour.
When the polls close at 8:00 PM, Chris Galius, Sophie Lui, Simi Sara, Steele and Drex will have all of the results, riding by riding.
