Generally a stronghold for the BC Liberals, the North Shore is expected to favour the incumbent party.
North Vancouver-Lonsdale was the only riding thought to be a possible swing riding, and the NDP campaigned hard there in hopes of unseating former Minister of State for Emergency Preparedness Naomi Yamamoto.
That work paid off, with Yamamoto falling to YVR project manager and engineer Bowinn Ma, who ran a campaign that focused heavily on traffic and congestion in the city, a message that seems to have resonated.
The party has only ever taken this seat once before, in 1991, capitalizing on a Liberal / Social Credit split in the vote, but managed to boost its 2013 saw vote by 2,100 votes.
The Greens have done well in this riding in recent years, teacher Richard Warrington was able to snap up more than 15 per cent of the vote.
