Vancouver Police is investigating a strange situation where a man took off with an ambulance from Vancouver General Hospital Thursday night.
Police say a paramedic saw the man leave the loading bay of the hospital with the emergency vehicle and followed him around 6 p.m.
Staff Sergeant Randy Fincham says officers blocked him in at Oak St. and West 10 Ave., but the driver refused to get out of the ambulance.
“He was non-compliant. Police did use a less lethal bean bag shotgun to deploy a round and gain compliance from the driver. They were able to remove him from the ambulance and arrest him.”
He adds police are investigating whether he was under the influence when he stole the vehicle.
Fincham says charges of theft over $5,000, leaving the scene of an accident and evading the police are pending.
