The Executive Director of the BC Nurses Union is now on leave due to what the organization’s President says were inappropriate comments.
Union President Gayle Duteil announced Gary Fane’s removal via YouTube video on Wednesday.
But she gives few other details, including either what the offending comments were, or whether they were made within a work environment.
“Our counsel has initiated an independent investigation regarding Mr. Fane’s remarks, and any other relevant issues. This investigation will determine the facts and, when concluded, will provide counsel with findings and recommendations,” Duteil says in the video.
She goes on to say the matter could end up before the courts, but doesn’t clarify whether this might be a criminal or civil matter.
Reached for comment, Duteil says she won’t give details on what Fane’s allegedly said.
“This issue came to light just this week, on Monday. And it was dealt with by Wednesday so we are working quickly through this process in order to have a fair and thorough process completed as quickly as possible.”
When asked if the comments were made at work or in his personal life, Duteil says a job like his is 24/7.
When reached by phone, Gary Fane declined to comment.
